Bahamas Academy officially welcomed students to the 2026–2027 school year with its first chapel of the academic year on September 4. Hosted by teachers, staff, and administration, the chapel gave students and the wider school community a chance to reflect on the importance of character, obedience, faith, and preparation for the year ahead.

The featured speaker, Elder Earl Thomas, challenged students to look beyond appearances and understand that genuine success is rooted in obedience to God and the principles that guide their lives. He reminded students that something may appear successful on the surface while ultimately carrying serious consequences.

Elder Thomas also highlighted the purpose of rules and guidelines within society and the school environment. He explained that rules provide protection, fairness, and boundaries, reminding students that godly rules ultimately reflect the boundaries God has established.

The chapel message complemented Bahamas Academy’s theme for the new academic year, “Molding Character, Reflecting Christ.” School administrators said the theme aligns closely with the institution’s mission of preparing students not only for service in this life but also for eternity.

“It is the duty of all staff members to become that village that prepares students for service in this life and for eternity,” said Dr. LaVonda Smith, highlighting the responsibility of the entire school community to help shape the lives and character of students.

Beyond the spiritual emphasis of the opening chapel, the new school year is also expected to feature several special academic and community-building activities.

Dr. Smith said the school is looking forward to its annual Math Week, which will engage students across the school in activities designed to make mathematics both educational and exciting.

Seventh grader Walton Dean said he is looking forward to the opportunities the new school year will bring, particularly the launch of the school's music program.

“I am excited for this school year, filled with opportunities. I am excited to start the music program at Bahamas Academy,” he said.

Fellow seventh grader Jameka McPhee said being reunited with friends is one of the things she is most excited about, along with some of the school's popular activities.

“I'm very excited to start this new school year because I'm in the same class with most of my friends, and I'm excited for Fun Day and Culture Day,” she said.

As Bahamas Academy begins another academic journey, the school continues its efforts to encourage students to pursue academic excellence while developing the character, discipline, and faith needed to make a positive impact in their communities and beyond.
