On Sunday, September 21st, 2025, South Bahamas Conference Children and Adolescents Ministries Department, in collaboration with Women’s Ministries, hosted a groundbreaking menstruation training event titled “Flowing with Confidence.”

Held at the Philadelphia Seventh-day Adventist Church, the session was aimed at educating and empowering young girls ages 8-25 with open, honest, and faith-based conversations about menstrual health. The all-female panel presenters, each under the age of 40, led dynamic and informative sessions that dismantled stigmas and myths surrounding the topic of menstruation. The knowledgeable team also gave practical tips about menstrual cycles.

The Presenters included, Vashti “Aunt Flo” Johnson, who broke the stigma around periods and reminded the 8–14-year-olds that there is nothing shameful or “dirty” about the natural process of a woman’s cycle. She also reminded the young girls that God made their bodies, and this is a natural part of a woman’s life cycle.

Nurse Tien Gibson also addressed the 8–14-year-olds and shared in detail healthy menstrual hygiene care before, during, and after a cycle.

Women’s Health Enthusiast Erin Moxey started off the sessions with the 14–25-year-olds, explaining the phases of the menstrual cycle, sharing her personal journey, and even giving fun tea recommendations to ease symptoms.

Nurse Maria Roper had the same age group to whom she offered practical guidance on using sanitary products, understanding discharge, and recognizing menstrual changes.

Not leaving empty-handed handed the attendees were gifted a sanitary kit where each package included pads, sanitary napkins, sanitation bags, sanitizers, flushable wipes, and even a makeup bag to keep it all organized. The day was a success based on the overwhelmingly positive responses from the CHAM and GEMS attendees.

One parent remarked, “Thank you for being obedient and touching on a topic so many of us have been afraid to address over the years.”

With attendees already asking for a part two, CHAM and Women’s Ministries Directors Kenisha Simms and Carla Rodgers are encouraged and excited to see the seeds of education and empowerment take root within the local churches, as they will also be hosting their individual trainings within their churches.
