Here at the South Bahamas Conference, we celebrate with young gospel artist Joshua Stewart, who has garnered local and international recognition for his music. Stewart, who attends the Grant’s Town church is currently studying Business at Andrews University, however, he realized his spiritual gift of music in his childhood.

Stewart said, “Growing up as a kid I always loved music, and my parents actually enrolled me into music lessons so I could further that. And later on I just developed my own love for it. Growing up in the church helped a lot because it gave me a space and an environment to develop my skills. Also it gave me a space to mess up, and as for my career I was able to also branch off and work with other professionals in the industry as well.”

Over the last few years, Stewart has expanded his musical talents as a singer-songwriter, pianist, drummer, and project producer and has recently launched his second album called 'Sincerely'.

Stewart continued, “That album really it’s a combination of all the different stories from personal experiences, seasons of sadness, even seasons of figuring out who I was as a person, and who I wanted to be in the future. I was able to go off to the United States and work with different professionals over there, Trinidad and Tobago and I just brought a bunch of different people together, and also different artist from The Bahamas as well."

"After I moved to Andrews in 2022, I met a few people there, a group called 'Branch Worship Collective', where it happened really random to be honest with you. I started writing with them the very first day that I got there. I didn’t even really know them at the time, but we came together, we wrote a lot of songs, we prayed together. And after all of that, I decided this song 'Complex Worship', that they’re featured on it needs to be heard and it talks about bringing different worship styles, and the hearts of different people, also from different cultures. And that’s why I call it 'Complex Worship', and that was the second song on the album.”

In addition to his growth as a musician, Stewart has also been blessed to receive 3 nominations by the Bahamas Gospel Music Awards including, album of the year, traditional song of the year, and praise and worship song of the year, as well as international nominations from the Kingdom Image Awards, and the Gospel Choice Music Awards. He has dedicated his time to inspiring others through song, encouraging his peers to continue to invest in the talents God has given them.

Stewart said, “Even though some people might not take you seriously when you first start early on at the beginning, cause for me a lot of people didn’t take me seriously. It affected me to the point where I almost decided to quit, because you know in order to basically stop everything negatively that was happening, to me it seemed the easiest way to go out. But I decided to continue, and I am where I am today because of that perseverance, and because I chose not to stop. And I think that everyone has something unique to bring to the table. We are as unique as the very fingerprints we have. And I think that God has created each and everyone of us to provide something unique to the body”

Through music, Stewart hopes to continue to positively impact others and bring them closer to God.

Stewart said, “Worship is not a feeling, it’s a lifestyle. When I’m creating either of myself or for other artists, I try to think about what am I bringing to your life, instead of how am I making you feel. Feelings come and go, but your lifestyle stays for a good minute. And I think that if I can impact even one person, not just with a feeling, but with a lifestyle, I believe that that’s more impactful, and also that will help lead others to Christ.”

As we celebrate the success of our youth, let us continue to support and uplift them as they use their gifts to share the gospel around the world.
