This past weekend, the Adventurers of the South Bahamas Conference celebrated the highly anticipated annual World Adventurer Day. Every third Sabbath in May, the Seventh-day Adventist Church globally celebrates the Adventurers, which is an important age group of the Pathfinder organization.

Culmer shared, “Our Adventures are the youth ranging from ages 4 - 9,  sometimes we take them younger as in pre-k where we as the older teachers, older leaders are interacting with them to enhance their spiritual, physical, and mental development through various lessons, lectures and various activities. So we cater to the younger version of Pathfinders.”

According to Andres Peralta, associate youth director of the general conference, World Adventurer Day is dedicated to recognizing the importance of the spiritual and emotional education provided by the Adventurer's Club. The adventurers in our conference gathered at the New Providence Community Center located on Blake Road for the fifth annual Adventueree under the theme “Jesus Knows, He Takes Care of You”.

Culmer continued, “Just about five years ago before the pandemic hit we launched our first Adventuree experience, and the Adventurer Camporee, what we call now the Adventuree is where all the Adventures come together for a massive interaction, a massive camporee experience. And the importance of it is just for them to be able to dwell with one another in a more relaxed environment. So we are happy to enforce that theme through various lessons and activities.”

During the opening service, the boys and girls recited their adventurer ideals and the adventurer song.  Featured speaker Pastor Mannessh Simms, using the biblical story of Naaman the leper, reminded the adventurers of how much Jesus loves them.

Simms said, “Naaman had a problem called leprosy that only God could fix, but every single person has a problem called sin. Everyone has a problem called sin, and unless we get help from God, eventually sin is going to send all of us to die. But there is a solution, there is an answer boys and girls, it’s found in John 3:16. Let’s say it together, ‘For God so loved the world that His only begotten son that whosoever believes in Him will not perish, but have everlasting life’. We have that sin problem that nobody else can fix. If we go to God and accept what Jesus did for us, that means we can be healed of our sin problem."

The day continued with the Adventurers completing six honors and concluded with a surprise visit from Noah’s ark petting farm, where they learned about some of God’s amazing creatures. This year’s adventure was an unforgettable one for both the campers and the adventurer leaders.

Culmer said, "This year we have over 160 registrants. This is by far the greatest, and every year it grows. They are very receptive because this is an opportunity for them to be laid back in a sense. They’re not dressed up. Today we are in T-shirts and jeans, comfortable, excited. We do various activities ranging from nature, recreational, spiritual, so we have all of in one environment, where we get to do all of that, just outside of the church. So it’s very interactive, it's almost like a massive playground.

Jasmine Johnson (Adventurer, Centreville Church) expressed, "In my opinion it’s a lot of fun. We’re getting to learn about how Jesus knows and will take care of us, and it’s a lot of fun. After we did a lot of activities, we sang songs we got participation."
