On Sabbath, September 23rd, 2023, the Seventh-day Adventist Mass Reunion Choir held a ‘Service of Celebration and Honor’ at the Grant’s Town S.D.A Church in Nassau, The Bahamas. The purpose of this service was to give thanks to Almighty God for the seasons of the Mass Youth Choir since its inception in 1986, and those who served as directors and members over the years of its ministry.

Among those celebrated were Pastor Dr. Paul A. Scavella, who commissioned the Mass Youth Choir as Youth Director of the then Bahamas Conference of Seventh-day Adventist; and Gladstone Adderley, who directed a special choir that recorded for the Breath of Life Television Series and in fact inspired the commissioning of this Choir.

Elder Anthony Curtis and posthumously, Nyoka Collie were honored as the first co- directors of the Choir. In all, 25 former directors and musicians of the choir were honored with gifts and certificates of recognition for their exemplary service not only to the Choir but as dedicated servants of God.

This spirit-filled service featured soul-stirring singing from the Reunion Choir and a thought-provoking and inspirational message, “Let the Music Play” by Pastor Lynden Williams, a former member of the Choir and pastor of the Ebenezer and Maranatha Churches.

Pastor Williams admonished all present about the power of music to inspire, unite, and lead many to a saving relationship with Christ; and that the music ministry in the Church should be appropriately relevant to youth and older members alike.

“The music, the worship format, everything, we must do that which we are comfortable with, but we must also inculcate those aspects that appeal to the younger generation."

He continued, "I am saying to all of us, let us work together, let us disciple our youth in music, in service, in singing, every other aspect of the church, let’s disciple them that we can train them to grow up to reach others.”

Reunion Chairperson, Allison M. Rolle, gives thanks and praise to God for His faithfulness, as the event was a resounding success. She invites all former members and supporters of the choir to partner with the existing members in ministry as plans for a full Reunion Concert are underway.

To date, the Choir has ministered in several of our local churches and engaged in visitation and support of sick and bereaved former members. With its overarching theme of ‘One Spirit-One Mission-One Voice’, the Choir looks forward to an impactful ministry journey, inclusive of mentorship, and hopes to inspire the formation of another Mass Youth Choir in the South Bahamas Conference.
