We shared the news of the passing of Alison Garcia, former Vice Principal of Bahamas Academy. Members of the Inter-American Division (IAD), Atlantic Caribbean Union and South Bahamas Conference paid their respects at her memorial service on Sunday, January 7th 2024.

Bahamas Academy Principal, Juliette Sands spoke of Garcia’s commitment to encouraging students to pursue excellence.

Sands said, "She was dedicated to her duty and tasks and oh so helpful. Many of us can attest to the fact that she was always ready to help. During her illness she worked straight through. One day I said to her, 'Why don't you go home?' and she said, 'Believe it of not the pain is less when I am here, because the work occupies my mind.'"

In his homily, IAD Executive Secretary Dr. Leonard Johnson commended Garcia for her unwavering faith in God which was an inspiration to others.

Johnson said, "That tremendous faith. Even though she was suffering, even though she knew her condition, Alison was not one to give up. She would doubt her doubts, but never her God. Like Job she was able to declare, though he slay me yet will I trust in Him."

Garcia was well respected at the Bahamas Academy. Students also shared their experiences and memories of the former administrator.

Student 1 said, "One of my fond memories of Mrs. Garcia is her lovely voice. I can remember times when I would hear her sing, and I truly new she was a christian."

Student 2 said, "Mrs Alison Garcia, she was a dynamic educator here at Bahamas Academy, and she gave her life to help and assist students in their Christ journey."

Indeed, we can truly say that Alison Garcia’s life was a testament to many on how to be a faithful disciple of Christ.
