Using the Motto, ‘Sharing & Promoting Health…I Will Go!,’ one of the objectives in Health Ministries is to train and equip our members with skills and present information and tools to help them be able to help themselves and others.

On Sunday, October 22nd, a Health Screening Workshop was conducted for participants to become more proficient in conducting proper health assessments. Shandera Smith advised on how to conduct proper anthropometric assessments, which deals with weight, height, body mass index, waist circumference, and waist-to-hip circumference.

Dr. Monique Mitchell shared how to care well for the feet and conduct basic foot assessments. Nurse Cara Ferguson taught on how to conduct proper blood sugar assessments. Nurse Barsha Smith instructed how to assess blood pressure, and Nurse Donna Moss trained on how to conduct proper blood cholesterol assessments.

The instructors presented the theoretical principles and conducted practical demonstrations. Participants were excitedly and actively engaged and demonstrated their ability to conduct these measurements. They were also given tools to assist in their future health screening activities.

The health ministries team also promoted healthy food handling practices within the churches with a Food Handlers Course conducted by Nurse Andrea Linden and a team from the Ministry of Health & Wellness. She taught participants how to ensure that foods and beverages are safe before consumption to avoid becoming ill as a result of food poisoning. Participants received their Health Certificates at the end of the session.

On Sunday, October 29th, a First Aid, CPR, and AED course was facilitated by the Early Access Training Centre. Participants excitedly learned through a fun and interactive session how to perform life-saving techniques on anyone who is in a life-threatening situation. About 50 people participated in these training courses. Appreciation is extended to all our instructors who volunteered their time and shared their expertise.

We are encouraging and challenging the entire membership to practice the principles of the Health Message and to become more actively involved in some form of health evangelism. More training sessions will be conducted next quarter to empower you. Stay tuned!
