As I hurried into the grocery store fully regaled in my COVID-19 attire I smiled to myself when I saw that my fellow shopping comrades were just as securely dressed. Shoppers darted in and out of the aisles, furtively looking at their fellow shoppers, while others just completely avoided any eye contact as if that would ensure they would not catch the virus from anyone.

As I headed to my car, I noticed an elderly lady standing near my car with more bags than even four hands could hold. Something just told me she was looking for a ride. Sure enough, as I passed her, she asked, “Can you give me a ride?” Did she not know that it was the height of the pandemic, and NOONE was giving rides? As far as I could determine, there was only one answer, ‘No.’ If the answer was No, why did I hear myself telling the elderly lady “Yes.” I could hear a voice in my head screaming, “Are you crazy? What if you catch COVID?”

My passenger had said she lived “right down the road,” however, we had passed the roundabout, three traffic lights, two left turns and there was still more to go. In the meantime, my passenger was bombarding me with all kinds of questions and advice without wearing her mask properly. I very sternly told her to fix her mask, but she just touched her mask with her fingers just to pacify me.

Sensing my frustration at her lack of cooperation with the COVID protocols, my passenger decided she would give me a revelation. She confidently revealed to me, “I know God was going to get me a ride. I told God that I needed a ride and he made you give me a ride. He chose you, so that is why you had to give me a ride.”

“Is that so?” I replied. “Yes,” my passenger replied, “God sent you.” Finally, after passing two additional traffic lights, my passenger directed me to a house and indicated that we had arrived at the place where she lived.

As I drove off, I thought about her utmost confidence in the fact that God would provide a means for her to get home. As I reflected, I was struck by the fact that the Almighty and powerful God, Jehovah Jireh, the God who spoke this complex world into being, had stopped to ensure that His beloved older daughter, one of 7.99 billion people on planet earth, living on a tiny island would be able to get a ride to her doorstep. I was in awe as I was reminded that although the Almighty God sits high, he still looks low. It was a small request but important to His elder daughter.

And so, it turned out that God had orchestrated transportation home for one of his elder daughters while simultaneously answering an unspoken need for reassurance by one of his younger daughters. I was reminded that God had promised to be with me when I pass through the waters, through the rivers and through the fire. That includes COVID and any other experience. He never said there would be no problems, difficulties, challenges, sickness or death. His promise to me was, I will never leave you nor forsake you. Nothing is impossible for God. Whether it be a ride home in difficult circumstances or other challenges and difficulties. With the confidence of my passenger, I declare, Yes! Yes indeed, nothing is too hard for our God.

Be encouraged.
