Here in the South Bahamas Conference, creation Sabbath weekend was held from October 26th-28th. This is the fifth year of the Faith and Science initiative being held in The Bahamas. On Thursday, October 26th, an inspiring chapel service was held at Bahamas Academy. Students from the elementary and high schools came together for the "Faith and Science" event which left an impact on those in attendance. Present was Education Director Anthony Burrows and guest speaker Major Coleman.

Major Coleman captivated the audience with a moving account of his life journey, recounting the challenges he faced during his early years. He spoke of the loneliness he often felt, reflecting on a moment when he found solace in an unusual place behind his grandmother's house-- a graveyard.

Coleman said, "You have to think about this, I must have been crazy. If God didn't exist, then why was I talking to Him? I said I don't know what to believe, I obey You... what have I done wrong? There was something missing, I didn't have confidence in God."

During his intervention, he pleaded to God to reveal Himself, and he eagerly waited. God responded, but not in the way he had anticipated.

He said, "I said you know, isn't it like God, you pour out your soul to Him and He doesn't even bother, He doesn't even have the time to show up... I don't remember anything that happened between that night, alone in a cemetery, and becoming a university professor. I do not remember what happened! Young people I want to tell you something, God always shows up."

He went on to emphasize the importance of not merely choosing to stand by faith, but actively placing ourselves in Christ. He encouraged the students to seek a personal connection with God, reinforcing the idea that faith and science can coexist and complement each other.

Coleman said, "When you are outside of Christ, you only have one set of DNA, and it will die. When you are in Christ, you take in the nature of His deity, you actually have two lives. That is what makes you holy before God, that is why you can have confidence when you call on God, believe me He's going to show up."

The students were visibly intrigued by Coleman’s story and message, and it is our hope that it will continue to resonate with them and inspire positive changes in their lives.

On Thursday Evening, Coleman visited the University of The Bahamas where he presented to students, faculty, and guests on the topic: Evolution or Creation. Which is True? Coleman analyzed the various concepts of evolution using scientific methods of research to prove its lack of validity.

Coleman said, "Observation, that is science. No one saw the world created by God. Creation, is not science. Science is the use of observation, record keeping and controlled analysis on the empirical world."

Coleman also addressed the four postulates, or reasonings behind both evolution and Christianity. According to Coleman, all four creation postulates are observed in nature and can be tested and proven true whereas evolutionary postulates have been scientifically proven to be false.

He said, "If we had a scientific thing, test, experiment, that we can measure, and it is related to creation then we assume that creation is true. You cannot measure evolution with science. Life is a complex artefact, far beyond the line of man. We can measure that, we can see that. DNA has billions of connections, one DNA strand, in one human cell. A code is a level of intelligence, why, because it translates from one language, into another language. Only intelligence can do that."

The faith and science weekend concluded on the Creation Sabbath, which is celebrated annually in the Adventist church, every fourth Sabbath in October. The Grant’s Town church welcomed Dr. Coleman and his wife, where he spoke during the 8:00 a.m. service under the topic “At dawn, we slept.” Coleman shared with the congregants that it is important for young people to understand what he calls the science of salvation.

"He said, "The salvation of humankind is more complex than the creation of the world. Its the greatest miracle that God has every performed, the salvation of humankind, because it is impossible. I'm telling you that it is actually impossible, yet god does it..."

According to Coleman, the church has a duty to its younger members who are often vulnerable in their faith during their collegiate years on secular campuses. Creation Sabbath services continued at the Hillview Church, where Coleman presented on the topic “real faith vs blind faith” for sabbath school. During the Divine service, nine newly baptized members were officially welcomed into the fellowship of believers. Three additional individuals also made the decision to be baptized.

Coleman, in his charge, reminded the believers that God can do the impossible, even when Science cannot explain it. Coleman’s final presentation was held on Sabbath afternoon at the Hillview church. His focus on Noah’s Ark provided the congregation with an in-depth look at the structure of the ark and its importance in the debate against evolution.

This Creation Sabbath proved to be a memorable one and we thank Dr. and Mrs. Coleman for the engaging seminars that reminded us that God is the creator of all things including science.
