To conclude its Autism Series, the Children and Adolescent Ministries’ (CHAM) Department held a CHAM Training at the Breath of Life Church on May 3, under the theme “Learning Practical Techniques for Teaching Children & Adolescents with Autism & Related Disorders.” Led by experienced ABA therapist Joyann Josey, the training provided attendees with a mix of hands-on activities and practical tips to support neurodiverse children in both local churches and educational environments.ABA therapist Joyann Josey

One of the many questions asked at the session was the best ways to cater to a child who doesn’t behave like the other children.

According to Josey, it is important to treat all children fairly, regardless of their abilities.

She said, “If you know you're doing coloring, then there's an expectation that even though this child is different, he still needs a paper to color.

“So you try not to treat them any differently than you would any other child. Whatever that child does, it's just as beautiful as what the other children do.”

The interactive training highlighted the value of creating inclusive spaces and provided practical tools to help CHAM Leaders, Sabbath School teachers, and educators meet the unique needs of every child.

CHAM Directors Kenisha Simms and Cindy Stuart expressed their gratitude to all who supported and attended the CHAM Autism series during the month of April.
