The Long Island District of Seventh-day Adventist churches celebrated the children on March 17th- 19th, during a visit from the Children’s and Adolescent Ministries (CHAM) Director, Kenisha Simms.

The weekend saw children within the surrounding communities attending a Friday night vesper service where adolescent Samuel Darville, spoke on the topic of procrastination. Church members and community friends returned to Steven’s Church on Sabbath where adolescents engaged in an interactive sabbath school and participated in the Divine service. Simms preached on the little boy whose lunch fed the 5,000, and encouraged the church to never underestimate their gifts, talents, or time dedicated to the service of God.

CHAM leader for Steven’s Seventh-Day Adventist Church Racquel Darville, shared that the children who visited from the community came because of an extended mission program promoted by the CHAM’s department. She said, “Aunty K encouraged CHAM leaders to promote our stewardship coloring board bank.” The money banks are an initiative from The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) that allows children to fill them up and donate the funds to the Children’s Ministry Department and children-related projects in The Bahamas. Danville and her team went into the community, distributed these banks, and extended an invitation to the children who received them to visit the church. “In doing this we had 37 children from the community join us this past week,” she added.

On Sunday, March 19, children and adolescents from the community and Steven’s Church recorded for the “CHAM’s Devo” daily devotionals program, which is a reading from the book “Following in the Footsteps of the Great Characters of the Bible”. CHAM’s Devo airs every day at 7:30a.m. on WORD SBC 88.3 FM and ATV Channel 658. The daily devotionals can also be viewed on the sbc_chams_corner Instagram page and the Children and Adolescent Ministries/CHAM Facebook page.
