On Sunday, June 25, 2023,  members of the Blessed Hope Church congregation, and community supporters came together in unity and reverence to celebrate the magnificent dedication of the newest house of worship in the South Bahamas Conference. This momentous occasion marked the start of an exciting chapter in the church's history.

Nestled in the heart of South Andros, the Blessed Hope church has served as a spiritual pillar for countless souls over the years, beginning as a branch sabbath school at the Driggs Hill all-age school building. The church building was bought to completion thanks to the many sacrifices and support from individuals including Elder Amos and Olga Flowers, the couple who were the founders of this initiative.

The dedication ceremony unfolded under an atmosphere of profound gratitude and excitement. As the congregation gathered before the doors of their new sanctuary, the ceremony began with the cutting of the ribbon by church member Iona Sweeting.

The service continued with the singing of the national anthem, and remarks were brought by Island Administrator for the south Andros district, Julita Smith-Ingraham, and President of the Senate, J. Lashell Adderley.

Those present also enjoyed the melodious singing of the Blessed Hope Sanctuary choir and the South Andros District choir, which was comprised of church members and talented vocalists from the Adventist community, who lifted their voices in harmonious praise.

The sermon was delivered by Dr. Peter Kerr who reminded those present of the importance of creating spaces, like the newly dedicated church to commune with God.

“We build churches because God wants… the church to be a place where he can meet with his people,” Kerr said. “God wants to have a meeting place in every community.” A church is a place of meeting where God and his people come together for celebration and for joy,” Kerr added. Kerr also reminded the congregation that the church is more than just a building, but a tool to be used for various avenues of ministry.

As the ceremony concluded, the congregation recited the act of dedication that was led by South Bahamas Conference President, Pastor Kenny Deveaux.

The members of the Blessed Hope Church committed themselves to be beacons of light, to their community, fostering unity, and embracing all who enter, for generations to come.
