It’s back-to-school time again, and Bahamas Academy kicked off the 2025–2026 school year on Friday, August 22nd, with orientation for its new students. The day was designed to help new students settle into their new environment. Principal LaVonda Smith shares highlights of the orientation.

Smith said, “Our new students were introduced to the staff and administration here at Bahamas Academy. They were given the rules, the expectations, a tour of the campus, and they were made to feel at home, and welcomed to the Bahamas Academy family. We are so happy to have our new students with us.”

School officially began on Monday, August 25th, as the campus was buzzing with new and returning students who were reacquainted with their classrooms, classmates, and teachers.

In each class, students engaged in icebreaker activities, and teachers took the time to outline expectations and set the tone for the school year. This year’s theme at Bahamas Academy is “Rooted in Faith, Growing in Knowledge,” which aims to remind students of the importance of keeping Christ at the center of education.

Dr. Smith shares with us the school’s goals for the year and the vision for guiding students spiritually and academically.

Smith said, “We will continue to point our students to Jesus, which is the main mission of Bahamas Academy. Last school year we placed emphasis on literacy and numeracy, and we saw the benefits in the improvement in the BJC and BGCSE results. So this year we will continue to place emphasis on numeracy and literacy, and we would like to add a component of financial literacy into our lessons in the same manner that we integrate our faith and learning. And we look forward to even better grades in GLAT, BJC and BGCSE.”

With faith as its foundation and knowledge as its goal, Bahamas Academy looks forward to a year of molding students not only for academic success, but for a life rooted in Christ.
