In a nostalgic and heart-moving ceremony, Bahamas Academy honoured four staff members for their years of service on March 22nd, 2024, at the Living Faith Seventh-day Adventist Church. The retirement celebration honoured Stephanie Dawkins, Elizabeth Lynes, Valerie Poiter, and Joan Scavella. Family, friends, and Bahamas Academy faculty, staff, students, and alumni all participated in the ceremony sharing special music, poetry, and other tributes.

Also in attendance was Atlantic Caribbean Union Director, Pastor Peter Kerr, who thanked the ladies for their service sharing that “teaching is a ministry, [and] a sacred calling." South Bahamas Conference Education Director Anthony Burrows also congratulated the four retirees and commended them for their commitment to education.

Burrows remarked, "To Mrs. Scavella, Poitier, Dawkins and Lynes on behalf of the office of education and all of the many students who have passed through these doors over the many years thank you for your service. May almighty God grant you health, strength, and many years of relaxation as you enjoy your well deserved retirement."   President of the South Bahamas Conference Retirees Association, Rowena Smith welcomed the ladies to the association, reminding them that there is no retirement from God’s work. On behalf of the SBC Media Network, I pray that God continues.
