In a proactive effort to enhance campus safety and emergency preparedness, Bahamas Academy conducted a full-scale active shooter and emergency response training exercise on Monday, August 18th.

The simulation involved school administrators, teachers, staff, along with trained security specialists and first responders. The objective was to test emergency response protocols and ensure all personnel are prepared to respond swiftly and effectively in the event of a real crisis.

South Bahamas Conference Education Director Juliette Sands, who led the initiative, highlighted the importance of readiness.

Sands said, "It is important for us to be prepared for anything. We prepare for a hurricane, we prepare for a fire, and unfortunately the world we live in, its not as safe as it used to be, and anything can happen. And so here at Bahamas Academy we believe in keeping everybody safe."

The training was led by Bahamas Academy alumnus and antiterrorism officer Brian Moore, who emphasized the importance of safety drills in schools and praised Bahamas Academy for being proactive with this effort.

Moore guided the staff through various scenarios mimicking a realistic active shooter situation. He also recommended that emergency drills be comprehensive, including physical security upgrades, mental health resources, and coordinated emergency planning.

After the exercise, a debriefing session was held to review the event, gather feedback, and identify areas for improvement. Bahamas Academy administrators aim to conduct additional training throughout the year, including classroom-level drills and staff workshops.
