The Cure: Are You Ready For It?

The jigsaw events of life may not be as disconnected and irregular as many may think. Malcolm Muggeridge believes that the voice of God can be heard in what we may not readily comprehend. He writes, “All happenings, great and small, are parables whereby, God speaks… and the art of life is to get the message.” None of us can gainsay that life has been difficult and confusing. COVID-19 seems to have upended so many things in our global and personal world; yet, there is still room for faith. As human beings made in the image of God, men, and women still possess a spiritual dimension, which allows human beings the capacity to transcend material chaos and find order in the transcendent God.    It is in this context that SBC presents The Cure: are you ready for it?

We live in a tension between this chaotic material world and the transcendent world. Often, we are torn between the two worlds. In the words of Ken Gire, “Like a tree, we are torn between two worlds, a part of us rooted in the soil, another part reaching for the sky. But because our roots can grasp the soil more securely than our leaves can grasp the sky, the soil seems more real. It is something we can see and hold in our hands. But heaven, heaven escapes our grasp.”

Jesus came from heaven to redeem us and satisfy our longing for our Creator. The Psalmist extols the virtues of our God by shouting, “Praise the Lord O my soul, and forget not all his benefits—who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle (Psalm 103:2-5).” Jesus is the CURE. Jesus said, “It is not the healthy that needs a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance (Luke 5: 31-32).” Heaven is real and heaven’s provision is genuine.

When we disregard the blessings from heaven, we tend to dig deeper into our earthly pursuits to find 'the CURE.' In many instances, people look for 'the CURE' in careers, popularity, organizational climb, power, status, money, position, and academia. While these pursuits may be noble in themselves, they should not replace the pursuit of God for eternal significance. The result of placing meaning and purpose in earthly pursuits often lead to great disappointment. When purpose and meaning are anchored in the heaven-sent Jesus, there is no disappointment. “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:8).”

For two weeks, international and local speakers have been the audible voice of God speaking about the cure, amidst the jigsaw and confusing events of our times. I hope that many people heard God’s voice. The events of our times are telling us to pursue God, and to love him with all our hearts, souls, mind, and strength —
The Cure: are you ready for it?

WOMEN’S MINISTRIES DEPARTMENT
Ladies, do you have a testimony that you wished you could share with the whole world? Maybe it’s a scripture that means so much to you that you would like to share why. Do you have a story that you think would inspire your sisters in the faith? Well, here is your opportunity.

The Women’s Ministries Department of the South Bahamas Conference of Seventh-day Adventists is pleased to announce the publishing of the first local Women’s Devotional, and we are seeking your help in making this become a reality. We ask that you make this a matter of prayer and if you are led to make a contribution to the devotional, we invite you to submit your story.

Each submission should range between 450 – 500 words, in totality, with a title and a scripture text. Please also note that you may use your name or a Pseudonym, whichever makes you more comfortable. All stories should be sent to SBCwomensministries@sbcadventist.org.bs. Deadline for submissions is June 2021.

As we embark on this journey together, we ask that you pray for the successful launch of this Devotional and that many lives will be enriched by its readers.
