Uncompromising Faith

Article by Stanley Philord, Public Campus Ministries Coordinator (photo)

Daniel 6:22, “My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions' mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt” (King James Bible).

I am often reminded of this verse when faced with the difficult trials that may find me. Like Daniel, the enemy will make it his endeavor to shake your faith or in other words ‘feed you to the lions’.  And it is in those times we must trust God more than ever.

There are times you will be expected to compromise during exams. Satan will try to target you in the most subtle ways. Sometimes we find ourselves in a ‘hole’ and we find ourselves in a position to betray our integrity through cheating. You may believe that no one is watching but remember we serve an omniscient God. He sees and knows all so always ask yourself, is it worth being in disagreement with Him? If you are one that gets nervous during exams, just pray! Once you’ve done your part to ensure success, leave the rest to God. He will see you through!

There are times you will be expected to compromise your Sabbath... Just ask! From experience, I can tell you in all of my 5 years attending a non-Adventist university, the enemy has tried but God always intervened. Every exam I’ve ever had scheduled on Sabbath was either canceled, rescheduled or they allowed me to sit the exams at another time. This was true for extra classes as well. Teachers made personal accommodations to ensure my faith was not compromised. I am reminded of an experience that occurred while studying at university. An important meeting to decide who would lead the Senate of the University of the Bahamas was intentionally scheduled for a Saturday. There were a few who had ill-intentions to ensure I would not be present and my nomination to be forcefully withdrawn. I prayed about it and left it to God. Believe me when I say, he saw me through. The day of the election came, but it had to be postponed because they could not meet a quorum.

There are times the enemy will use your social relationships to get you to compromise but, you must stay strong and not fall to peer pressure. Often times you will hear “just this one time.” That one time could cause you your future as all bad habits started from “just one time”.

Fellow students be encouraged! Keep an uncompromising faith in God. –- Mr. Stanley Philord, Public Campus Ministries Coordinator.

MINISTERIAL DEPARTMENT

The Ministerial Department presents ALERT (Advance Leadership Evangelism & Retention Training), in conjunction with the South Bahamas Conference of Seventh-day Adventists Evangelism Strategic Plan. Two weeks ago, the overall approach to soul winning in our Conference was launched at a mega rally, and churches were challenged to create a minimum of four streams or four paths by which we can spread the good news of salvation with others. Under the theme: Reaching Millennials - The Paradigm Shift,” the Ministerial Department will provide specialized training to show our members how to use a variety of evangelistic methods effectively. Guest presenters for the symposium will be Dr. Jessie Wilson, and Henoc Paulicin, along with local pastors and laymen from the South and North Bahamas Conferences.
