A Prayer For The Bahamas

Click here to download for print distribution.

Almighty God, you created us in Your own image and likeness: we thank you for all warriors in our history who have contended against evil and fought fearlessly for our freedom. Help us to reverently use our freedom responsibly that justice, equality and fair play might be manifested and maintained in our Bahamas and within and among all nations. We confess our failure, throughout these forty years of nation hood, to fully reveal your image and likeness. Drugs, crime, violence and broken homes still lurk on every hand.

We confess our hatred and failure to show kindness, our injury of one another in thought, word and deed, our uncharitable thoughts, prejudice and contempt toward those who differ from us…….” We beg you accept our repentance, Lord. We thank You for abundant blessings of families, for our children and youth – the bridge to the future and all those who guide and nurture them, for daily food, for sun, sea and sand.

Thank you for minds to think, for health and strength to work and play. Guide, now, our leaders that they may protect our treasures well, create full and fulfilling employment and so direct our affairs in righteousness and peace. Let us glorify the lord: Father Son, and Holy Spirit. Praise Him and highly exalt Him forever for his wonderful gift of this archipelago of Islands, The Bahamas, home to us. May we treasure one another, our Independence and democracy for all times to come.

Accept our prayers and thanksgiving Lord we offer You, as one people united in love and service.
--This prayer has been adapted from the National Independence Prayer of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas.

WOMEN’S MINISTRIES
Please note that due to this COVID-19 pandemic, our regular submission format has changed. This week and every week thereafter, we will stay connected thorough our “Sisters for Sisters” words of empowerment and inspiration, coming from women across our Conference. The submission this week is from Sister Chantell Miller from the New Macedonia Church in South Andros.

Clear the Clutter
Sisters, are you taking care of yourselves? No, I am not talking about dressing up, and looking beautiful; getting a fresh hair do or treating yourselves to a spa day equipped with facials, manicures and pedicures. So, what exactly am I referring to? I am so glad you are wondering.

It is said that 'the mind maketh the man.' Yes, you have heard it. " As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he." Well, how is your thought life? Is your mind clustered with church matters, family matters, job related matters or matters arising from COVID-19? Are there thoughts of disappointments, appointments, past hurts, present failures or what the future holds?

I know that we are natural nurturers who care for everyone and about everything and I am quite aware that we endeavor to mend what's broken, to bring relief to every pain and solve every problem; but the reality is that we just cannot be all things to all men, no matter how much we try. While God has placed within every woman special coping mechanisms, we are not invincible!

I wish therefore to encourage you to free your minds. Clear the clutter! Take time to breathe. Leave the past in the past but learn from it and grow. Forgive. Just let go and allow God to manifest Himself in every area of your lives. Don't dwell on those things that crush your spirit and dry up your bones (Proverbs 17:22); opt instead to think on all that is true, noble, lovely, admirable, excellent or praiseworthy. (Philippians 4:8). Seek to have a cheerful heart and pure thoughts and your lives will never be the same.

Upcoming Events
“Loaves of Love”
Taken from the text in Isaiah 33:16, on July 18, 2020 , Women and GEMS from across Nassau and the Family Islands will distribute various types of homemade breads, rolls, water and other goodies to designated target areas of need due to the COVID-19 pandemic, beginning with families in their own church congregations. Please contact your local leader on how you can participate in this wonderful initiative.

“Unplugged…but Still Connected?” Embracing Our Resilience
COVID-19 “unplugged” us, as it were, from everything that was normal in our world, but did it keep us connected to God and each other or did it create distance along with emotional and financial discomfort?

Join us on July 19, 2020 at 6:00 p.m as we have the open and honest conversation on how we coped spiritually, relationally, emotionally and financially and how we birthed and developed new gifts from God, with special guests, Pastor Brenda Billingy, Dr. Stephanie Hutcheson, Sis. Beverly Williams and for our young ladies, Youtuber, Ms. Evin Musgrove.

You don’t want to miss this informative and exciting interactive session. Bring your purple cup with your favorite drink and snacks in tow and enjoy “the best spent hour and a half” with us. Zoom ID to follow.

Pause and Pray Wednesday
Don’t forget our weekly Pause and Pray appointment on Wednesdays at noon.
