A child's growth and development are profoundly shaped by a strong support system comprised of three key pillars: parents the church, and the school. Each plays a pivotal role in nurturing a child to become a well-rounded and successful individual. "Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it." Proverbs 22:6 (NIV)

Parents are a child's first and most influential teachers. They are the bedrock and foundation upon which a child's early training is built. In a family, parents are responsible for guiding and teaching their children, raising them with Godly values and principles. A child's success is often a reflection of their parents' active involvement and positive example.

Children learn by observing the adults in their lives, which is why it is vital for parents to set clear rules, standards, and boundaries. By living a principled and moral life, parents provide a powerful example for their children to emulate. Furthermore, parents are tasked with providing a safe and conducive learning environment at home. The Bible, as a manual for life, can serve as a guide to help parents inspire and chart a positive course for their children, instilling in them a fear and respect for their Creator.

The church, in partnership with parents, plays a vital role in a child's upbringing by providing a watchful and nurturing environment. As Ellen G. White notes, the church acts as a "watchman," protecting youth from spiritual dangers and supporting the home in developing true Christian character.

Church activities, such as the Pathfinder club, help to deepen a child's understanding of God's Word and foster their spiritual, mental, and physical development. The church family should be a strong and nurturing community, offering additional guidance, counseling, and support. Many churches demonstrate a remarkable interest in education by providing funding for students and distributing school supplies each year.

The school operates in harmonious tandem with the home and the church to complete this three-legged support system. The unshakeable goal should be focused on the spiritual growth of each child. Academics should be of a high standard, delivered by qualified professionals skilled in teaching and guiding students. The staff should not only be knowledgeable but also exemplify the fruits of the Spirit, creating a positive and Christ-like atmosphere. Ultimately, the school should strive to develop students holistically, emphasizing spiritual, academic, social, and physical skills. This approach helps students embody a Christ-like demeanor and acquire essential life skills, preparing them for the world beyond the classroom.

Armed with a strong support system from the home, church, and school, a child has a far greater chance of success in this world. This collective effort seeks to produce individuals who are not only good citizens but are also prepared for God's kingdom. As we begin another school year, many of us play more than one of these roles. Let us commit to playing our parts well, for the honor and glory of God. Let's pledge to pray for our children every day. Happy New School Year!
