I am pleased to announce our local conference level of the "Bible Connection 2024". It is not merely a competition, but a unique and important spiritual experience that we, the youth, go through every year. It is an immersion into the main work of Scripture, most especially Genesis in the Bible and Ellen White’s Patriarchs and Prophets. The Bible and inspired writings play an important role in forming the spiritual life and identity of young people.

We live in an increasingly distracting and often chaotic world, and it is my prayer that Bible Connection might serve as an enduring anchor for our youth, particularly as they experience all the ‘ups and downs’ that the adolescent years present to them. In studying Genesis, participants have exposed themselves to one of the most important roots of our faith. We also find in Genesis our roots as humans, created in the image of God. If we hope to build healthy, resilient faith, we must always seek to return to these roots.

Patriarchs and Prophets by Ellen White accompanies the journey, as it places the Bible’s stories in historical context, and brings a prophetic perspective to their events, showing them relevance for our times. It helps our youth to see that those Bible events that happened long ago, are alive for them in the here and now.

Beyond cementing a relationship with God, Bible Connection brings its participants a host of tangible benefits that will help them not only in the future but also with their immediate everyday needs. For example, students learn critical thinking and disciplined study habits. They are armed to express their ideals with clarity and conviction. These are skills they will need on the path to college or a career. Bible Connection equips children to be intellectual and spiritual leaders who can navigate life with wisdom and confidence.

Also, Bible Connection encourages fellowship and connection. They meet and play with other Christian kids. They make friendships that will last a lifetime. They experience the fun of competition, but in a safe, healthy community where winning or losing is celebrated with friends in Jesus. The camaraderie created in Bible Connection reinforces the value of the church for fellowship and encourages young people to attend church and Bible study with their friends for years to come.

Lastly, I want to thank all those involved with Bible Connection from the organizing committee to the carers and volunteers who so generously give their time to help the young people that attend. I hope that this goes to show what we can accomplish as we encourage and support today’s youth as they take those first steps to engage with the hopeful and life-saving message of Jesus through the Bible.

Sincerely,

Manasseh Simms: Youth Director, South Bahamas Conference of Seventh-day Adventists
